on the one hand, yes. on the other hand, my generation piloted the spoken use of âlolâ, âlmaoâ, and their myriad variations in pronunciation.
Every generation comes up with new terms that the older generations donât get. The proud tradition has been going strong since language began.
I suppose eventually Iâll come around to accepting it, if it persists. But these are not the same; the intent behind them is different. âLOLâ is an acronym, not a censorship workaround. Saying it out loud is purely ironic. Maybe the zoomers saying Tiktokisms out loud is also ironic (Iâve personally never heard it directly), but the reason it exists in the first place is stupid
At first it was ironic, then it just became a muscle memory response.
Plenty of people thought text acronyms were dumb and people were even dumber for saying them, even ironically. This is just you being one of those people for the new generation of âkids these daysâ

It contains the full original word, therefore doesnât serve any censorship purpose. Using it this way can even recontextualise the word in a way that trivialises SA. Itâs harmful, unlike lol or lmao.

It was also written in 1946 or 47 but published in 1948. See the pattern? They swapped the 4 and 8 and published a dystopian future of the far off year 1984, lol.

Although Iâm not sure if this is true, I read somewhere that it was supposed to be 1980 at first, but Orwell decided to name it 1984 after its publication got delayed to 1948
