Atlantic puffin chicks - "pufflings" - die of starvation in Newfoundland & Labrador

When tour boat operator Joe O'Brien noticed dead chicks floating on the water, he alerted Environment and Climate Change Canada

There seem to be serious problems in ocean ecology, including warming ocean temperatures and a struggling food web.

Overfishing capelin may be a factor: "We're destroying [these fish] in mass volumes ... only taking the females.... That's crazy"

At Canada's largest Atlantic puffin colony, chicks are dying of starvation | CBC News

Pufflings, the small chicks of the Atlantic puffin, are struggling due to a lack of food and warming ocean temperatures.

@myeyesaredim the pufflings in Cape Breton are starving because the parents have been bringing home fish too big for the babies to eat. The warming waters have made other fish species come further North, and the birds are suffering for it. Also, there are a LOT of bald eagles there who have been picking away at the puffins.
