@mattdawhit not sure if this will be relevant, and it's a bit of a cliche, but for me it's usually writing it down - listing the component parts of whatever it is on a page. Gets it physically out of my head and away over *there* somewhere, notebook as an external hard drive. And I can literally draw a line under it, close the page and go back to it later. Or not, depending how important it actually was in retrospect after writing it down!
