Nothing inherent about modern software makes it require updates. You only need to update software regularly if it has external connectivity so you can patch vulnerabilities, and forcing that on people is just an excuse to force “feature” updates that include lots of bloat and spyware. It should be illegal to make connectivity mandatory.

@AeroLemming @ShittyRedditWasBetter there are a lot of things wrong with the world, but focusing on those that we as consumers can have an immediate and meaningful impact on, it would be excellent if we all could decide not to enrich companies that operate this way.

That, and by subscription for self serving reasons.

If that means using second tier hardware and software sometimes until they improve, fine. Change doesn't come without inconvenience.
