In Brazil, Bolsonaro election was literally this. The left was more interested in making articles about him than about itself. Turns out, he ended up winning. Any publicity is publicity. Second elections were different, the left focused on itself while Bolsonaro was losing allies and getting bad publicity made by his own campaign management, his own narrative and actions. Showing that the other side is bad doesn’t show an alternative to it, just get them visibility.
