To contrast the nightmare hospital visit bills our American friends get. I finally got my invoice for my out of province emergency room visit.

Because I was obviously not in a state of dire need, it was about a 2 hour wait. Between leaving and getting home was 4 hours total.

I had a badly twisted ankle (ligament damage).

Two x rays.
A bunch of pain killers.
A doc consultation
A pair of crutches
A tensor bandage.
Two nurses to fit the crutches.

My out of pocket for all this is $12.90 Cdn for the crutches. Everything else is paid for through our tax system.

Our life expectancy is higher because of this.

Socialized medicine is not what the Uber rich who profit off gouging you tell you it is. It works well and we don't go bankrupt paying medical bills.

They sell you lies so they can buy expensive yachts. Socialized medicine saves lives.

@chu
I spent 3 months in the hospital and had various diagnostics, spine surgery, and rehab. My bill was around $80,000 (about 30 years ago) and I only paid for the TV while there. All my meals, everything, was completely covered. I don't know how or if I'd have survived otherwise.
@chu In America about two months ago I had an infection and had to be hospitalized for 1 day. It was $45,000 total. I have really good insurance so my cost was only $100. But a years salary for one day of care? My insurance is through the hospital so the cost to me is unusually low. American healthcare is a scam.
