I may be preaching to the choir here, but I just posted this over on the Blue site. I think it's something important for indie creators, event coordinators, and other people looking to reach an audience to consider!
@cooner Honestly, if a "social media" position only takes care of a couple of social media accounts (or in some cases, *one*), that doesn't seem wise - they need to spread out!

@Tama23 @cooner Every single account that is posted to needs to be monitored for replies and responded to as needed. As the number of platforms increases, that is additional time and effort required of the volunteers who are giving up their time to make conventions happen. This is especially true when the platforms (like Mastodon and BlueSky) aren't integrated into the tools available (like Hootsuite).

Folks tend to assume that conventions have bottomless resources. This is sadly not the case.

@duncandahusky @cooner true, but I was referring to a proper job - though I realize that the original context was for a convention, which is typically volunteer-run. My apologies!

You bring up a good point about how the tools that are typically used don't have these integrations yet - I hope that improves over time, I've been waiting for most of my tools to offer anything *except* Twitter!

@Tama23 @cooner It's all good. I admit that I get a bit cranky about expectations of volunteers, and I apologize if I sounded brusque!

Personally, I've abandoned Twitter, and juggling between the other different platforms is a PITA. I can only imagine how much worse it must be for streamers, artists, makers, and others.

@duncandahusky @Tama23 Yeah, my apologies, I was just making a very bad meme joke. XD Yeah it’s very frustrating watching one egotistical billionaire man-child blow up the entire system we’d all become reliant on (which already had plenty of flaws) and scrambling to try to figure out where our audience went or trying to lure them to newer pastures. Yay late-stage capitalism! πŸŽ‰
