A rich guy with unlimited funds and zero taste is building this huge fantasyland castle in the Swiss Jura region. Stop the madness, #AbolishTheRich
@peter I wouldn't mind so much if it was actually good architecture.
@sanityinc In my mind there is no way building a medieval castle today could be saved by good architecture, but I try to be open minded: do you know of such a building? 😅 Or do you mean an opulent and space-inefficient building with good architecture? I actually do sometimes like to look at those, I admit, for the art …
@peter I mean, there are projects that blend old building shells with new buildings, or there are completely new buildings that pay tribute to old styles without being deliberately crappy in their construction. I think we agree.

@sanityinc The way you put it is very agreeable to me indeed! 🤗 A family friend does exactly that: renovate by bringing out the original materials and blending them with modern techniques in a respectful way that makes the results beautiful – I love that!

@peter Extremely cool!

@sanityinc Ha, it‘s funny that right after our exchange here I visit the Frankfurt Old Town that does exactly what we discussed: mix old and new with GOOD architecture and the result is quite beautiful 😄

Attached: 4 images The Neue Altstadt in Frankfurt is really interesting architecturally: it was bombed down in WWII, then a brutalist city hall took it‘s place until they decided to rebuild it from 2012–2018. They restored the few still standing buildings and created 35 new buildings in a modern style that references the old and also exhibits remains of the originals. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Frankfurt_Old_Town
