McNeely@tef ok I've set the pitchfork down. Lots to agree with here in general. I remember vaguely there was at one point a call to add either a new field or a fourth part to semver as "era" or something similarly named to solve some of these issues.
@McNeely i don't quite see how another logical clock will help with the issues
identifiers are better off as hashes, release channels are an orthogonal feature that could do with standardizing in package specifiers
and well another major number doesn't actually help you deprecate things—and you're still usually better off tieing major numbers to the calendar
