Heads up, fellow #genealogy and #FamilyHistory researchers who are looking for records of formerly enslaved people. Records from the 1800s, following the WWI-era records. What looks like correspondence from the Bureau of Indian Affairs follow these. 'Slave Compensation Records' start with image 79.

@packrat74 This being a FamilySearch microfilm, I wonder if you can search for this by the film number. (I always look for the cheaper way!)
@geneapleau I searched the FamilySearch catalog and found the Alien Registrations and Permits. Then I searched for that DGS number, expecting to find a film with both those items on it, and only got the Alien Registrations.
@geneapleau I should have used the FamilySearch Film or DGS numbers which were on the target cards on Ancestry, but I didn''t have time to find them yet.

@geneapleau DGS 001769637 contains:

- Item 1: Records of the U.S. Attorneys and Marshals : alien application for permit
- Item 2: Slave compensation records, 1866-1867
- Item 3: Property and supply correspondence, 1888-1892
Author: United States. Bureau of Indian Affairs. Rosebud Agency

@geneapleau Thanks for the nudge to find these on FamilySearch! This is why, when I find a FamilySearch film re-published on Ancestry, I always read the Film Notes.
