Usually stuff like this isn't sudden. It's a buildup of problems and management until the body can't take it anymore.
They knew she was going. They cared enough by dragging her to political theater across the nation which probably accelerated her condition.
I don't hate democrats, but it is hard not to see the evil in this.
She was the one who insisted. Nobody, other than maybe her staff, was encouraging her to keep that job.
The Democratic governor appoints her replacement. Why would they encourage her to stay?

I think she had already announced she wasn’t running again. There are a few primary candidates jockeying for the interim job.
She also announced she wasn’t on leave for 2 months, so who the fuck knows what she would’ve done.

Given what happened with Merrick Garland, it’s not fully clear that her retiring would have ensured the outcome you’re suggesting.
There was more than one occasion where the Dems had both the house and senate during Obamas term. She absolutely could have and should have retired during any one of those.
