“For decades, Senator Feinstein was a pillar of public service in California: from San Francisco’s City Hall to the United States Capitol. Her indomitable, indefatigable leadership made a magnificent difference for our national security and personal safety, the health of our people and our planet, and the strength of our Democracy.” - Rep. Nancy Pelosi

Statement from President Joe Biden on the Passing of Senator Dianne Feinstein | The White House

Senator Dianne Feinstein was a pioneering American. A true trailblazer. And for Jill and me, a cherished friend. In San Francisco, she showed enormous poise and courage in the wake of tragedy, and became a powerful voice for American values. Serving in the Senate together for more than 15 years, I had a front row…

The White House
“I know how we always refer to each other as ‘my friend from’ whatever state it is. Honestly, frequently that’s not true. But Elaine and I were actual friends of Dick and Dianne. Elaine served on a corporate board with Dick for a number of years. When they were in town together we would frequently have dinner together.” - Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell

@w7voa

McConnell relates a little ditty 'bout Dick and Dianne.
#Feinstein

@rgulick
Now that’s funny!😂😂
@w7voa
Whether or not McConnell will allow Feinstein's replacement to be seated on her committees will be the true test of his friendship with her or NOT.

@GreenFire @w7voa

> Whether or not McConnell will allow Feinstein's replacement to be seated on her committees

Two words: Chuck Grassley (who also sits on the judiciary committee)

@w7voa this is exactly why people celebrated her past while expressing concern about her recent actions during Supreme Court confirmations:

Feinstein hugs and praises Lindsey Graham, sparking an outcry from liberals: ‘Time to retire’

Feinstein said Amy Coney Barrett's Supreme Court confirmation hearing process had been “one of the best" she had participated in.

The Washington Post

@w7voa this is why these people shouldnt serve so long.

they are more interested in their pleasant dinner party conversations than they are in serving the interests of their constituents and actually sacrificing something for a better future.

i hope to see the day when the United States ABOLISHES the senate.

@w7voa

Much as I agree with most of her principles, I think she should not have clung to the Senate until her death.

@w7voa I'm so sad that she and her staff let her really important legacy decay the way they did. She really was important and groundbreaking. I remember Harvey Milk's murder era....
@w7voa She will be greatly missed. Probably the first race I understood the implications of when I was in 9th grade was her campaigning to get and former senator Barbera Boxer's combined efforts leading California to become the first state with two women senators I believe in 1992...
@w7voa RIP. She served a long time.
@w7voa said before will say again, every staff member she had should be investigated for elder abuse. She could have enjoyed her final years in peace instead if being Weekend At Bernie’s manipulated like a puppet.
@funkaspuck @w7voa Dementia makes you way more stubborn and insistent on your own capabilities. There is no mechanism for removing a senator from office because their mental faculties are going.

@funkaspuck @w7voa

> every staff member she had should be investigated for elder abuse

Powerful people usually do not choose to walk away from power. Your assinine assertion denies her the agency of having chosen to run for re-election, and of having won re-election. She was right where she wanted to be, because she chose and did it, not because she was a puppet of her staff.

@w7voa she wouldn’t retire

@MishaVanMollusq @w7voa

> she wouldn’t retire

You do understand that filling a vacant committee seat is subject to senate debate, and thus filibusterable? Name the 9 or 10 GOP senators who would vote for cloture.

@w7voa Wow. Nothing on the major networks yet. CNN and ABC doesn't have it.
