Just out of curiosity, do you pay for your tv license? Only applies to UK folks, sadly!

@soheb Can … can you still GET a black and white licence? … does anyone still have old enough kit to need one?

Reminds me of the deprecated joke about buying a Dalmatian (dog) because the licence was cheaper…

@fishidwardrobe I saw on the tv licensing website, and unbelievably you can still get black and white tv license in 2023…

@soheb
Got out of the habit of watching TV while living in France and ever since then have found the bulk of British broadcast telly to be abrasive stuff. Not that I think anyone else should feel that way, it's just a personal view. Paying for access I already know I mostly don't enjoy and won't use would be eccentric behaviour.

Netflix, though, sure. Blurays absolutely. Audiobooks certainly. Just not uk telly.

@soheb Also purchased one in my daughters name for Uni. Arcane rules where you can watch BBC on a laptop without the power adaptor but as soon as it is a powered device then it needs a TV license. Thought I'd do her and her house a favour by buying a TV license.
@soheb I don't have a tv license but there was no option for that. I watch Disney+ and Amazon prime video, I believe the combined price of which is cheaper than a TV licence. It's a shame because I do like the BBC and would like to support them, but it just doesn't represent good value for money.
@soheb In the UK, "license" is a verb, and "licence" is the noun. Compare advise/advice and practise/practice.
