So, a while back I saw this poll on tumblr and I wondered what the fediverse thought about the same question:

Are there more eyes or legs on Earth?

eyes
34%
legs
66%
Poll ended at .
@akoshibe which do ants have more of? Everything else is a rounding error
@akoshibe it would be odd for eyes to be on the earth

@akoshibe I'm assuming "compound eyes" count as one per cluster

Because, to a first approximation, all animal life is ants (or krill)

@trochee I would guess a cluster of compound eyes is one eye
@akoshibe Does a compound eye count as more than one eye?
@ed1conf I personally think it's one eye, the original question was probably intentionally vague.
@akoshibe I was also left wondering is this only living creatures or if dead were considered too. Or injured where part of the leg is gone. I still think it would take a LOT of creatures to best all the insects/bugs/arachnids with 2 eyes and 6+ legs, so my wager is still on "legs". But then you have the large population of fish contributing 2 eyes and 0 legs. So
@ed1conf Oh geez dead/injured organisms had not crossed my mind. My first guess was eyes if worms/nematodes are counted but the more I think about it the less I'm sure of what the real answer is.
