2nd GOP 2024 Presidential Debate Thread - Lemmy.world

Seven Republican candidates not named Donald Trump will take the stage Wednesday in Simi Valley, Calif., in a fight that looks like a second-place battle. Time: 9 p.m. ET TV: Fox News Channel and Fox Business In attendance: Mike Pence [http://www.mikepence.com/] Ron DeSantis [https://rondesantis.com/] Nikki Haley [https://nikkihaley.com/] Tim Scott [https://votetimscott.com/] Chris Christie [https://chrischristie.com/] Vivek Ramaswamy [https://www.vivek2024.com/] Doug Burgum [https://www.dougburgum.com/] Not In Attendance Donald Trump [https://donaldjtrump2024.com/] Asa Hutchinson [https://www.asa2024.com/]

I used to love watching primary debates, but these people are so disgusting and anti-American it makes me physically ill to watch them.

The entire Republican party is a cancer on this country.

For real. This is an embarrassment
Always was.
No. A long time ago, Republicans were the party of Lincoln. They were the anti-slavery party. They didn’t become evil until just about halfway through the last century, when they leaned hard into bigotry.
At least until Eisenhower.

This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals. It is some fifty miles of concrete pavement. We pay for a single fighter with a half-million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people

Imagine a Republican today saying that, and not about Ukraine

Don’t get attached to the name, the point I was making was that conservative ideology has always been poisonous and dangerous to society.

Thanks for the basic history lesson from 7th grade though. Definitely didn’t already know that tidbit (I did).
