This is not ok - Lemmy

Saw this today and now I’m reconsidering if Boost is right for me. I’m really hoping this is shitty boiler plate that was accidentally copied and over looked because that is some bullshit to say “unless we decide we want to use your personal data for whatever we want”. I know “legitimate interest” is a phrase from the cookies law but there is no legitimate interest justification for this. My data is my data and advertisers can fuck off, as can Boost if this the direction it’s going.

FOSS apps are still there. Idk why people use google adware/spyware

B-but the pretty colors and design!

They don’t care. Never have. They are happy to give away their soul to Google if it means it’s a little more convenient/pretty.

They are not in lemmy because of fediverse/descentralization/privacy/foss, they are here just because they don’t want to be in reddit.

Hey, let’s applaud people who reject a shitheel company like Reddit instead of holding them to a high standard of orthodoxy. Baby steps in the right direction are still positive.

Sometimes FOSS sucks and you go non open source route. Lol. Not everyone is a Linux using elitist.

I always use whatever I find best for my needs. All the apps for Lemmy sucked, only reason I’m here is because sync for Reddit notified me they were making an app for Lemmy. Before sync was out I couldn’t find a single app I would consider usable.

I am here for the FOSS decentralized platform, but this kind of “if you don’t use linux on you desktop and an ungoogled android phone then you just don’t care” attitude is what makes some people see FOSS and decentralized platforms as a niche thing for geeks who care too much, and not a thing for then too

if someone hits me with that gnu+linux im removing any lemmy related apps from my phone

Banning the gatekeepers, don’t worry we gotchu.

Banning them again and again, banning and not unbanning, flying bans, hot ban pics, free bans from the heart, organising trips to the ban mountain

And thanks to @[email protected] we can easily ban ourselves too!

Are you gatekeeping here? Yes you are.

Goodbye

they are here just because they don’t want to be in reddit. So 99% of current Lemmy users.

Because people choose what is convenient and they are free to do so.
Your justification also fits well for why terrorists used a plane for 9/11 instead of just talking and negotiating with the US government
Convenience. I could use NewPipe… but no, paying for Youtube Premium is easier
