Finally, some good news!

Guess who remembered to buy the two-year warranty against scratches when they bought their glasses lol and so, and get to fix my boo-boo's with my glasses for free. I need a little free right around now ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

@antiproton excellent news :D
@mattsiegel finally, some good news lol I was starting to wonder if I whatever find any good news lol
@antiproton I'm a little envious! My 2 year old glasses are a bit scuffed but I keep on looking!
@opalmirror I don't always buy warranties, but sometimes I think it's worth it. Obviously it's in a cost to risk ratio. And while one can mathematically determine the likelihood and so on to some degree, I sort of just feel it out. This one felt really likely to happen so I'm glad I did. Oddly, this is the first time they've ever been scratched but damn that I scratch 'em lol
@antiproton It's a shame sapphire (crystalline Al2O3) coatings or full-on lenses are so expensive to manufacture to eyeglass shapes, as it seems it would be the ideal material for long-wearing scratch resistant lenses. You'd need an entirely different set of ultra high hardness jewelry level lens making equipment and be willing to throw away the rejects, and that doesn't fly in business. Also keeping the customers buying every 2 years is great for cash flow and capitalism.
@opalmirror We got a set of these for m, and they were expensive. But they put this damn coating in the outside of them that got destroyed really quickly and it rendered the glass useless. What's the point of sapphire if we're going to then coat cheap plastic over top of it? ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ
@antiproton The anti reflective coating (on top of the sapphire) improves transmission. Sapphire has just 85% transmission vs. 93% for most other lens materials. Yet once the AR is damaged there's a smudge that will never come off. It's gotta be greed behind this. Here's a cranky old man opinion: vision correction is medicine and ought to be socialized.
@antiproton Warranties can definitely be worth it on major purchases.
@opalmirror 100% agree that it should be free. All med/visual/dental should be free (taxes)
