how to do open source

step 1: clone repo
step 2: read instructions
step 3: follow instructions
step 4-68: debug until instructions work
step 69: commit fixes to instructions

@terraboops Step 42a: Abandon the project and roll your own inferior, but compiling solution.
@terraboops a month later you rinse and repeat
@terraboops @GyrosGeier step 70: realize that somebody has an active PR with the same changes which is in review for 6 months already
@masta @terraboops step 71: realize that "somebody" is actually you, three years ago.

@terraboops Step 70: PR closed without merge, existing instructions work just fine if your environment is configured correctly and you're on a supported OS/Distribution, you must be new to OSS development, maybe you should learn the basics before you try to contribute.

(I nearly vomited writing that.)
