I am perpetually wondering what the aliens would value in humanity.

Naturally I assume altruism because the alternative is our extinction. So from there, what would they treasure?

From the 70’s sf short story “The Big Front Yard” the hero started offering whatever he had around the house in trade, and the author told that by the aliens being fascinated by paint. What solution to a commonish problem would we be uniquely good at?
At one point, I thought hand-laid wooden canoes or kayaks. But then why not baskets?

Since the aliens crossed space to get here, their materials science will wildly exceed ours. So to their energy-density and -control. That means a solution thats probably low-ish tech.
