If the UK drops into #recession in the next 6-9 months, it will have been engineered by the BoE via #interestrates rises;. the Q. then is it in whose interest is an engineered recession?

One might conclude that the #Tories want a term out of office to firmly attach the blame for the UK's economic worsening malaise on Labour;

given #voters seldom vote for the present Govt. when economies are in trouble, a recession will give the Tories the rest in opposition they now seem to want/need?

@ChrisMayLA6
Are you suggesting the #Tories are deliberately tanking the economy to hand a bigger problem to a (likely) Labour gov?

@TCatInReality

Indeed, I am.... its one pretty plausible way of interpreting the evidence before us

@ChrisMayLA6 @TCatInReality it definitely happened locally round here at the council elections. Pre-election, certain individuals were heard to say they were signing awful contracts to deliberately leave a mess for the likely incoming Labour Council. When they took control (after notable delays) there was indeed a mess.
@ChrisMayLA6
It's hard to prove intent, but it certainly is plausible given the facts.

@TCatInReality @ChrisMayLA6 Even if they aren't deliberately tanking the economy I think most of them have concluded they aren't going to win the next election and therefore their only incentive is which of them will lead the party into the following one.

Hence increasingly crazy policies aimed at factions inside the conservative party and the membership selectorate.

@ChrisMayLA6 I’m not sure the Tories are capable of thinking that strategically.

@judisutherland

when it comes to their self-preservation, I'm not so sure....
