For the #mechanically #disinclined -- #seatbelts lock, mechanically, based on the amount of force you put on them. I know of (multiple!) people who have issues with this, because they are violently grabbing the seatbelt to put it on quickly (thus locking the seatbelt). Pulling it harder just locks it more. The trick is to SLOWLY and SMOOTHLY pull the seatbelt out and then secure yourself. No, there's nothing wrong with the seatbelt... it's their seatbelt technique.
@ai6yr and then there are cars where it actually doesn't matter, it will try to kill you via seat belt regardless of how carefully you put the seat belt on. 😫🤣
@inoru_no_hoshi @ai6yr Or our Ford, where the belts act normally when the car is stopped, but once moving they tighten enough to prevent breathing and can only be released by stopping the car.
@W6KME @inoru_no_hoshi You need to nickname the car "THE STRANGLER"

@W6KME @inoru_no_hoshi @ai6yr

I've been in certain cars that do that too. Once you're buckled in, you can't even lean forward a millimeter. As a passenger, I learned to leave it a little slack while buckling and then hold onto that territory by sticking my wrist through the belt.

Probably not the smartest safety feature, if it's gone to the extreme that people need to circumvent it to be reasonably comfortable.
