I’ve often seen threads floating around on sites asking people: If you could have any one superpower, what would it be?

For me: The ability to understand, read, and communicate in any language.

It’s an ability I build into most of my RPG characters (even when it’s not particularly useful in the campaign).

(PS: My second choice of power would be teleportation.)

@aaronpallan

I would like to be able to brick any cellphone I see someone looking at when they are or should be driving.

@stevegis_ssg Big “Mystery Men” vibes there (in the sense of it being a superpower with extremely specific use cases).

@aaronpallan

With great power comes great responsibility and I don't want that.

@aaronpallan I started writing a short story about that—a guy on the bus suddenly starts understanding every conversation he’s hearing, regardless of language. I ended up leaving the story unfinished, because I couldn’t fully think through how it would utterly change someone. I still love the concept (and would totally love to have said power).

I’d love to fly, but a) Hard to be inconspicuous b) I’d probably fly into power lines and zap myself.

@stanjames Related to this: Check out the horror film “Pontypool” (2008) for a bit of a weird thinker centred on language.
