Joseph Plateau died #OTD in 1883.

He was one of the first people to demonstrate the illusion of a moving image. To do this, he used counterrotating disks with repeating drawn images in small increments of motion on one and regularly spaced slits in the other. He called this device of 1832 the phenakistiscope. via @wikipedia

@gutenberg_org It's unfortunate that he didn't live to even see the rise of nickelodeons, let alone Charlie Chaplin. I think the younger Wright brother lived to see the the rise of air mail, multiple military rôles for planes, trans-Atlantic passenger lines, and even the first jet plane.

It's only proper for an inventor to see their cute toy to grow up and contribute to the society.
