Human trials of artificial wombs could start soon — Nature

This is cool but I hate that my mind jumped to “this will be great ammo for a full abortion ban”

And so I’m not misconstrued: the above thought is a bad thing to me.

The fact that you’re so right makes me sick to my stomach. G-d help us. :(
I mean if the state wants to pay for the transfer surgery and take responsibility does it matter for the individual. Outcome is the same for them. Although I really wish the state would first take responsibility for those who can't care for themselves who are older first.

Maybe this technology will mean that women can offload the burden (physical and legal) to a machine.

A lot of the conservative agenda is focused on being in favor of more births. Give them a cheap alternative that doesn’t come with the human attached and some radically misogynist/homophobic elements might suddenly have a change of heart because their goals doesn’t conflict with it anymore.

Of course some people will never change, but look how the dishwasher and other appliances changed the lives of women. Suddenly traditions that had been around forever changed, and women were spending a lot less time doing domestic labor.

My worry is “you were raped so we’re incubating the fetus until it’s developed enough to give back to you to raise” because taking care of the child once it’s born sure as hell isn’t part of that agenda
