Psythik20+ hours in and my ADHD ass STILL can't figure out how the hell I'm supposed to repair my ship. The "REPAIR" icon is always greyed-out. Help!

I’ve noticed it will be grayed out, but as long as I actually have parts I can still repair.
ScoobyDuBoisIt took me so long to figure out that I needed ship parts for repairing! I was hoping for a message when trying. If there was a message, I didn’t see it.
I think there’s a tutorial window that shows up the first time you take damage in combat
