Does being incredibly smart excuse/forgive/overlook the latter?

@petersloan I would go on and say there are certain combinations where this is possible situation.
Thomas Edison for instance.
If the terribleness has small enough effect or is limited in scope, it’s easy to overlook it.
Another option is that multiple small bad things are easier to forget over time than one huge terrible thing. Even if comparable in their combined results.
