Oof what a terrible take from #todayexplained. Aren’t long covid cases still sitting at 10% of infections? In what world is that “most people” recovering with no problems?

We’re going to look back on this time with a lot of regret. Or we’ll cure long covid and I’ll look like I’m crazy. Either way, I’ll wear a mask, thanks very much. #covid #CovidIsNotOver

@basepi I suppose technically anything less than 50% counts as "most people recovering..." which shows what a totally unhelpful metric it is to measure the impact. Most of the Titanic's maiden voyage was uneventful.
@basepi
Well, while these are certainly weasel words, they are nevertheless true. If 10 percent get long covid, that means 90 percent, by far most people, either fully recover or die. Is it irresponsible of them to put it like this? Yes? Are they deliberately glossing over the terrible condition that is long covid? Again yes. But mathematically speaking, they're perfectly correct.

@temporal_spider yeah I was most frustrated with the tone, which implied “you are overreacting if you’re worried about Covid”.

Super irresponsible and disappointing. Though not very surprising.
