Sometimes I think I'm watching a different movie from everyone else because I'm all tense and like, YOU IN DANGER, GIRL.
And everyone else is like, But elections....
This lack of urgency is one thing that happens when you don't have strong politics.
And I'm not even as smart as the real folks who are monitoring this.
Those poor folks are hoarse from all the warnings they've been shouting since the Oklahoma City bombing.
Dear Feminists, You can't Girl Boss Fascism.
You really can't.
@tallblackguy Yeah, I tried to explain this at my board meeting last night and folks were just, but what are we supposed to DO.
and i couldn't say: just read the Combahee River Collective statement and start from there.
@DeliaChristina We literally stocked up on dried and canned goods (beans and rice, mostly) prior to the 2020 election "just in case". I plan to do the same next year.
I am so tired of this.
But fight one more round.
@middleclasstool
I'm standing with my face agog in some private conversations with really smart civil rights folks and I'm like, WHUT are you talking about. Do you have NO idea what you're facing right now.
And they don't. They think this is just a more intense electoral moment.
It's not. It is a CRUCIAL cultural watershed right now. And vulnerable communities are taking the hits. NO ONE is standing between them and the coming oblivion.
It's fucking scary.
Like, I remember when some terrible polling came out re: an issue affecting a certain population and the polling was SO BAD it freaked all the big orgs working on that issue with that population and they TURTLED.
They went silent for a YEAR. Because they dithered.
And whaddya know, in that year, laws popped up all over the country targeting their population and they LOST a whole goddamn year of public discourse. They ceded the public square to the other side.
@DeliaChristina I'm not a fan of violence or aggression but too many liberals are bringing poetry to a knife fight, like they don't understand what's going on. Compassion and love should infuse everything we do but sometimes the wise and compassionate thing is a throat punch.
Bonhoeffer was a pacifist until he went to the camps, and then he realized, no, sometimes you have to get blood on your hands to do the right thing.
@middleclasstool
I will compassionately knock someone the fuck out with love.
That's what Jesus and the Baptists taught me.
@middleclasstool
Also, one of my dad's heroes is Bonhoeffer. He referenced him in almost every sermon he gave.
A true saint. A modern saint.
@DeliaChristina Yes indeed. I've spent the last month thinking about his words on the role of stupidity in the rise of fascism.
Your dad sounds like my kind of preacher.
@middleclasstool
he was a great preacher.
i loved listening to him preach.
his sermons taught me some things.
he once did a whole series on Romans (the whole effing book) and it was a slog. but the whole church stayed with it. it was incredible.
weird. but incredible.
