Inside a Michigan sheriff's unsuccessful campaign to find election fraud

Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf has claimed there was fraud in the 2020 presidential election, but his own office's 2022 report didn't find it.

The Detroit News

While #BarryCounty #Sheriff #DarLeaf has publicly described the 2020 presidential election as the "alleged greatest fraud committed in this country's history & especially in our state," his own investigators' findings from April 2021 through June 2022 fell far short of supporting the claim.

Through an open records request, TDN obtained reports submitted to the Barry County #prosecutor by the sheriff's office, including a summary of the voter #fraud investigation as of June 10, 2022.

The reports referenced a podcast interview, suspicious vehicles & a mysterious phone call about a printer. But the deputies' findings focused primarily on purported inconsistencies in the state's list of qualified voters & on absentee ballot applications arriving at the wrong addresses, 2 situations that don't point to #fraud.

Chris Thomas, who served as #Michigan's elections director for >3 decades, reviewed the sheriff's office summary, concluding the deputy who wrote it either didn't understand what he was investigating or his writing skills fell short of translating what he knew.

"I'd say he's got entirely nothing," Thomas said of the report.
