@F4JWJ He was about four inches, tip to tip. It's the biggest I've seen in a while. I used to see them everywhere, but like the rest of the critters around here, there seem to be less and less every year.

In which part of the US did you take this picture ?

Here, the largest insect is the "Praying Mantis", the little green serial killer we call "Mante Religieuse", and it's under 8cm (3").

@F4JWJ It was near Atlanta, Georgia. It looks like it might be a Carolina Mantis, but Wikipedia says they only get to about 2.5". This one definitely seemed larger, but that might be faulty memory on my part.

I usually see more of the green Chinese Mantises around here. They like to hang out in the garden and guard my tomato plants.
