So this year's shaping up to be not just the hottest on record (records that started in 1940, that is), but August looks to to have been about 1.5C warmer than the preindustrial average for 1850-1900!

Global air temperature anomalies are only moving in one direction & look to be accelerating - the #climatecrisis is here but politicians seem to be hoping it will all just go away (or a new technical fix will appear).

the world is burning & #RishiSunak & other 'leaders' have their fiddles ready!

@ChrisMayLA6 Seems clear to me that fundamental change is needed to society and to capitalism and the ideas that profit and growth sit above everything else. If today's politics are unwilling to entertain the change that is needed to reverse climate change then we need changes to our democracy too.
Waiting for a technological solution so we don't have to change while planet burns is sheer folly.

@IndyRichard @ChrisMayLA6 Was thinking about the idea that we need constant growth - this has to change. If you think of economy as an exchange of goods, eg I give you a loaf of bread and in return you give me flour to bake it, there is no “profit” or “growth” as such. But if you decide you want ten loaves to sell on and profit from, I might only be able to give you five if not enough flour. And no-one might be able to buy those loaves. So that growth goes nowhere (just a thought).

@nusher @IndyRichard

as you sort of hint, the key to growth is the interaction of resources deployed and productivity... we currently ae deficient in the latter, but in the long term the former is the real issue
