Started playing #SF6_MANON - character is a lot of fun!
#StreetFighter6

After playing #SF6_DEEJAY almost exclusively after release, picking up a second character that's great at fishing for counter-hits means I can focus a lot more on whiff punishing instead of just auto-pilot muscle memory and then dumping damage on a big hit

Placed P4, matches were pretty straightforward:
Chun - G5 - W
Juri - P4 - W
Chun - M - L
Ryu - D3 - L
Cammy - P1 - W

also learning the hard way that mastodon doesn't support monospace blocks 😔

| Character | Rank | Win/Loss |
|-----------+------+----------|
| Chun-Li | G5 | W |
| Juri | P4 | W |
| Chun-Li | M | L |
| Ryu | D3 | L |
| Cammy | P1 | W |

vs

going to try make it a goal to hit platnum on every character

after first big growth spurt of actually learning how to do the good combos in SF6 (never have in a fighting game before!), I feel like i'm currently just autopiloting too much, so getting in some experiance as every character should help both balance that out, and increase overall understanding of both the game and chars toolkits

Continuing this, did placement matches for #SF6_ZANGIEF to get him out of the way
#StreetFighter6

Had a fairly miserable time, very happy to not touch gief again in future

Placed D1 mid-set, lost G3, and then it instantly demoted me to P5 with no rank loss protection. Emblematic of the Gief experience overall, really

Placement match details:
1. Manon - P1 - LW (they dipped)
2. Ryu - G5 - WW
3. Ken - D1 - LL
4. Guile - P2 - WW
5. Cammy - P5 - LWL

Following on from Gief in my journey to learning every #StreetFighter6 char, it's #SF6_MARISA, where I placed unexpectedly high at D1!

I'll be honest, did not have a great time with muscle mommy. Consistently bullied out in neutral and often struggles with AAs. Feels amazing when you block a DP though

By all means you can effectively with with her, but she's at her best when you are ape in the jungle; beating your chest and swinging from tree to tree - I just could not find the right vine

Placement match details:
1. Gief - G5 - WW
2. Honda - P5 - LL
3. Ryu - P1 - WLW
4. Lily - P1 - WW
5. Sim - D1 - L (look im not proud of dipping, but im not repeating what happened w/ Gief)

Continuing journey to learning a little of every #StreetFighter6 char, it's #SF6_GUILE, where I got a little unlucky with my placement match spread (even being sniped by an IRL mate!), and placed P4

I really like Guile in this game! He's fun! Makes me feel like I'm bad at fighting games, though - as he's a very simple straightforward character with slightly finicky combos in a game as explosive and momentum based. Does not mean he's bad though; he's one of the best, for sure.

Also realised I forgot to post my #SF6_RYU results (or rather, I can't seem to find them if I did) - placed D1!

Ryu is great in this game! Unfortunately very overshadowed by Luke/Ken in the current balance patch, but I have a gut feeling Luke and Ken are going to be significantly nerfed next balance patch, while Ryu is unlikely to be touched over the course of the game's lifetime.

Also realising I should be posting these as "public", due to how visibility on Mastodon works. Oops!

Moving onto #SF6_LILY #StreetFighter6

While I practiced this one for a lot less time than others, getting placed P1 was insultingly low given I near exclusively fought low/mid plats

Not sure how I feel on Lily. Nowhere remotely near as bad as folk make out she is, but ultimately she's a "guess correctly" character who's less rewarding than Manon, but she has such an easy time getting plus frames that it'd be way too much if she was more rewarding.

Am I interested in playing more? Not really

In a surprise twist, first character I've had to abandon: #SF6_CAMMY

remember on launch when everyone thought cammy sucked, but then a couple months in and people have honed matchups and discovered she's actually really good?

well, if you pick her up, you get to experience history as it is /impossible/ to consistently win with how low damage she is, and how explosive and high damage other characters are

Next up, #SF6_CHUN #StreetFighter6, where I placed P4 and exclusively played with modern controls!

In beta and release, I quickly cast aside Chun as she has a very unwieldy, kinda gimmicky kit. After being inspired by Haitani's stint as M Chun, getting a 72 ranked win streak and a top 6 placement at EVO, I decided to give her a proper look.

She's great! Turns out you don't need all that stance guff as 6MP is one (if not) the single best button in the game! It does it all!

We're also now at the point of #StreetFighter6 meta where people are seriously giving modern controls a look, and they're very good!

Character-dependant, but unless you really want to play like Guile or Dhalsim or something, modern controls will not limit your ability to play vs classic controls. It is entirely down to the player.

Next on placements w/ every char, #SF6_CAMMY, where I placed D1 and exclusively played with modern controls. #StreetFighter6

Initially, I gave up on Cammy, as low damage + limited experience means you can really struggle to overpower more crazy explosive playstyles and characters, but she is very very good, with fantastic neutral and conversions. Simple and effective gameplan, but not very explosive.

accidently hit Alt+F4 instead of F12 (my kb has a modifier for F*), so different img this time

Will say I got very lucky with a D1 Ken who flat out gave up G2 and stood still taunting (but still rematched me though?)

cheers bud!

Next up, #SF6_Ken, where I placed D1 w/ modern controls #StreetFighter6

Ken is actually the character I put the least amount of effort into learning. I saw that 5LP went into DP, medium auto combo did basic run stop stuff for me, and that was enough for me!

The annoying thing about Ken is, despite being an extremely over-represented top tier, he's really fun to play! V good w/ modern, also! Turns out 1 button fireballs are actually really good!

Next up, #SF6_BLANKA, where I placed P5 w/ M controls, and I'm extremely salty with that placement! #StreetFighter6

Had two high P's I mopped the floor with, then two high D's I went close with but ultimately lost 0-2 to, and then a P1.

Blanka is good, fun, and pretty easy to pick up with M, but might be the first M char I've played that's actively worse w/ M controls, given that he loses some important tools, and doesn't get an instant single button DP.

Wow! Two in one day? Next up, #SF6_JAMIE, where I placed at a surprising D1 w/ modern controls! #StreetFighter6

Jamie is good, he has great buttons, great pressure, great ways to build his resource. Jamie players might be some of the most severe downplayers I've ever seen. He just doesn't have a lot of representation at the moment, because if you're playing to WIN win why wouldn't you pick Ken instead?

Next up, it's week 1's menace: #SF6_HONDA #StreetFighter6

Placed an unsurprising D1 w/ M controls, and - gonna be honest - I do not like Honda. He feels like worse Blanka for people who should be playing Marisa.

Absolute menace when you don't know the matchup, but even when you don't, he still has to commit hard and guess correctly to actually kill you.

Next up, it's the character with only one joke, #SF6_JURI #StreetFighter6

Placed at D1 w/ M controls, fighting a lot of diamonds who were way less threatening than normal? not sure what was up with that

not much to say on Juri, she's kinda just slightly worse Ken in a game where Ken does everything really well, so yeah just play Ken. Noticing a pattern here

had a lot of trouble w/ her DP AA, they'd either fly over or under, but never had an easier time punishing silly corner neutral jumps

Next up, the character that was wrongly gutted from the beta, #SF6_KIMBERLY #StreetFighter6

Placed D1 w/ M controls with the strangest placement spread I've had so far.

Kim is in a very unfortunate place where she has good stuff, but even moreso than other examples, is completely and utterly overshadowed by Ken. There is genuinely zero point to playing her over Ken at the moment outside of investing experience for when she's buffed in future. Sad stuff.

Next up, it's #SF6_LUKE, where I placed at an insultingly low P2 #StreetFighter6

Next to Lily, Luke might be my single least favourite character in the game. Both his buttons and combo routes are finicky, gimmicky and unintuitive.

From a design perspective, I'm not sure why you'd go to make him the next new poster boy, but then make all his buttons function differently from the rest of the cast? Like, what?

Next up, it's everyone's favourite villain, #SF6_JP #StreetFighter6

Placed D1, and my experience with this character was really strange.

Initially, I could not vibe with him at all and struggled to win against relative beginners. The more I played him, however, the more things started to click, and he's actually quite fun!

Don't think I'll play him that much more, though. Ultimately not really my kind of character, and come that S2 patch he is getting all of his organs removed.

2 more to go!

Yeah I'm not doing dhalsim, this character fucking sucks while also being very hard to learn. And then when you have spent the billion hours to learn him, you have low damage and near non-existent defence in a game where characters put you in the corner near instantly.

And you know what? Good. I do not want to play a game where a character like Sim is good. Moving on.

@MenacingMecha You forgot the biggest drawback: he's so cringe 😬.
