Some have given up on masking as they think there's no point if masks can't singlehandedly eradicate a virus (a right wing talking point). What they're missing is that higher risk people can't even get healthcare due to a lack of masking. Masks make essential spaces accessible.
SARS‑CoV‑2 is highly transmissible and we don't have a sterilizing vaccine. People can't mask 24/7, so it's unfair to expect masks alone to contain that spread everywhere. But masks can help contain spread in specific spaces like healthcare settings. That makes masks worth it.
@luckytran Not just healthcare settings, that is a priority but it should be in all places that have public gatherings of more than a few people.
@luckytran Stores, schools, airports, as well as healthcare settings should be the priorities unless I am missing something big, but, really any type of get-together with a lot of people should be masking, and have good ventillation.
@donkeyblam @luckytran airplanes, dining places (which should be closed for indoor dining), boats (which also need air filtration and to stop burning diesel)
@ellenor2000 @luckytran As much as I agree that indoor dining should be closed right now, it *might* be acceptable to have if they literally just blast the place with uv-c and do some kind of testing before.
