We'll go for the glitter, the fake and phony, any day in the week. It's built right into our culture, and our religious history absolutely has much to do with this predisposition: those periods of "great revival" which were essentially big tent shows in which people went hog wild rolling on the ground and barking and dancing and babbling "in the Spirit," with a preacher man or several of them moderating the show and passing the collection plate….
