I really wish folx would STOP using “bias” as a synonym for racism

Having a preference for one thing over another is NOT the same thing as developing systems, institutions, and policies to target and harm that thing you don’t like

RACISM IS INTENTIONAL, STRATEGIC, & ACTIONABLE; IT’S A VERB

@KimCrayton1 Hmm. Lots of folks seem to be using the term to describe things that aren't intentional.

So from your POV, if I blindly repeat a talking point I've heard, ignorantly not realising it's racist – that's not racism?

Its bad, but its not the same thing?

@fishidwardrobe @KimCrayton1

It is definitely racism, intent has nothing to do with it.
the fact that you don't know it is, is a direct result of the systems of racism. these create your ignorance and keep you from realizing it.
if your intent is to remain ignorant of the harm in your words then that could be considered willful ignorance.
if your intent is to remain ignorant of the systems of racial oppression and anti-Blackness around the world, that would be construed as STRATEGIC IGNORANCE

@tamouse @KimCrayton1 That's perfectly reasonable – although it does seem to me that we're using the same word to describe two different things. Or, if you prefer, the same thing with two *very* different intents and motives.
