I don’t know if the “Every captain needs a mate” is the official tagline or if it’s just something the OFMD Twitter account threw in there when they posted the poster with the air date. But I have Thoughts.

Izzy leaving Ed will make him spiral even more, because he hasn’t got his First Mate around anymore.

Stede needs to team up with Izzy to truly become a pirate captain.

Co-captains need a First Mate too, and they could share one.

@polag I could see that happening, especially if Izzy just leaves. Ed would appoint someone else for the task.

Also, what if Ed just decides to SWITCH. Tells Izzy to leave (could get hostile about it, too 👀) and tells Jim that they’re the new First Mate now.

Then again, there’s the possibility that Jim is so angry about what Ed did to the rest of the crew (Oluwande included) that they won’t want to be Ed’s First Mate.
