This is one of the greatest single-minded things about the reason for an obscure piece of infrastructure I've ever read. https://xoxo.zone/@mathowie/110980256864841146 @debcha This reminds me of my printing artifacts obsession.

I love nothing more than to read blog posts written by nerds fueled by stubbornness and spite. Reading this glorious post on why a pedestrian bridge to seemingly nowhere exists is like listening to a full season of a true-crime podcast. No spoilers, but there is definitely a satisfying conclusion. https://tylervigen.com/the-mystery-of-the-bloomfield-bridge

@glennf
my wife’s family lives very close to there and every time I’ve seen that bridge I’ve though “…..why is that there???”

Finally, I know.

@glennf @debcha Amazing. I live in Richfield and served on the Transportation Commission for six years, and this is a level of nerdery about our infrastructure that I can only aspire to.
@glennf @debcha I love these kind of stories too- there was a similar pedestrian overpass built over Interstate 8 in La Mesa for Grossmont HS kids to cross the freeway (I assume while I8 was under construction long ago), and I used it when I was very young - but when they widened the freeway and replaced the narrow sidewalk-less road bridges with better, wider ones, the old footbridge was never replaced.
