If you’re in the path of #Idalia & new to this, AMA.

The storm is undergoing Rapid Intensification right now - with higher tides from supermoon tonight, storm surge will be bad (esp on the east side).

Follow advice of local officials & mandatory evac orders. I’m not a professional, I’ve just been through this a lot & worked with Cajun Navy Relief.

Random fact: climate change is causing more rapid intensification of Atlantic hurricanes.

Climate change is causing more rapid intensification of Atlantic hurricanes

Rapidly intensifying storms like Hurricanes Laura, Michael, and Harvey are dangerous because they can catch forecasters and the public off guard.

If you or someone you care about are worried about evacuating because of pets not being welcome, here is a site where you can check if hotels & other properties are pet-friendly:

Finally - if you’re gonna go, go tonight. Tomorrow may be too dangerous.

My personal rule is if it’s a 3, I flee. NHC said it’s likely that Idalia will be a Category 3 (111-129 mph) at the next update (11 pm Eastern).

If you can’t go, fill up your bathtub with water so you have that if you lose power/water pressure.

If you’re in a mandatory evac zone, *please* try to get somewhere safe tonight. Good luck.
