I’m sorry. Mastodon has spoiled me. I cannot seem to take BlueSky or Xitter or Threads or any of that shit at all seriously. They have nothing but a Big Name attached.

Inferior technology, name recognition, and a toonie will get you a large double double at Tim Hortons, but it don’t pay the freight anymore in social networking.

@mos_8502 This is 100% how I feel too.

I was only ever using corporate-owned social media until something better came along. Now, it finally has.

@mos_8502 Pretty much matches my feelings at this point. Mastodon is where most of my social media time is spent now.

@mos_8502 Everyday is a learning day on Mastodon. 😀 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toonie

(we have a similar coin in the UK but rather unimaginatively we just call it a 'two pound' coin.)

Toonie - Wikipedia

@Lazarou We call it a "toonie" because of the "loonie" but when it came out, I voted to call it a "doubloonie", which I feel is better.
@Dorkseid I’m still upset that the animal on the back isn’t two male deer.

@mos_8502 I admire this toot not only for its content and the sentiments expressed, but for its deep Canadianness.

I’m gonna go open a bag of all dressed potato chips now.

@mos_8502 I have no interest in Threads. I walked away from the bird awhile ago. Blueskies the app is awful and it feels like it has some of the worse parts of the bird site.

Mastodon isn’t perfect but it is the best place for me.

@mos_8502 I nuked all my fragmented accounts yesterday. Time to live free of that garbage.

@mos_8502

The lack of block alone is enough to keep me away.

@mos_8502 I was kind of thinking about Blue Sky. I asked all my friends if anybody was on it, and they all said no.
@mos_8502 Exactly. Nice to be free of corporations, advertisement, and algorithms. If something shows up in my timeline, I put it there either directly or indirectly.
@mos_8502 Xitter, pronounced "Shit-er" the enshitified Twitter
@mos_8502 been feeling the same way lately, reason why im trying to waste more time here lol
@mos_8502 came to Nostr first, then here. Would say both politically and technologically complement each other.
@jraedisch @mos_8502 I really like NOSTR as a protocol, but apart from having attracted a lot of insufferable crypto bros, they don’t seem to be making community moderation a priority—or at least pushing NOSTR’s moderation capabilities to the forefront. I’ve seen (through Damus) enough horribly racist and antisemitic content on there for my views to have soured on the platform overall. I’ve yet to see anything remotely as egregious on Mastodon or Bluesky.
@likenedthus @mos_8502 That is kind of what I meant by “politically and technologically complement”. Global feeds on Nostr can be messy. If the market demands it, moderated relays might develop. With ~10k daily active users, that might still take a while though.
@mos_8502 I'd like some algorithms (as an optional secondary feed) but birdsite feels almost unusable now.
@mos_8502 also knowing that #enshittification is coming eventually... .
@mos_8502
Bluesky has not seemed friendly. I peek in every day but just don’t feel comfortable there. Mastodon seems to have more opportunities to find your niche.
@mos_8502 Jack Dorsey, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and their wannabe lookalikes can choke on a bone.

@mos_8502 I’m not sure I can fully support this post, sorry.

Why would I buy a Tim Hortons coffee? Is there someone holding one of my loved ones hostage?

@mos_8502
You might want to give nostr a spin, from what I can see it's redicioulus how it can surpass all other social protocols, including activitypub.
The protocol is just awesome. What culture it'll cultivate is to be seen.Though with a more sensorship free protocol things will be organized completely differently. But, they do have spam protection (in the sense of work done). Accounts aren't server based, so less dependent on admins and their quirks.
@mos_8502 @Gargron Despite threatening to delete my twitter account I can’t get any of my friends on here
