Republicans must be too busy trying to distract us with other things to try and cancel Obamacare lately. Or maybe they’ve finally realized most people like it.

At any rate, this is another great idea from Governor Gretchen Whitmer. All states should do it. Probably only the Democratic-run ones will. #VoteBlue

Michigan Gov. Whitmer will call on Democrats to codify ‘Obamacare’ into state law

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer will call on lawmakers to pass legislation proactively protecting key provisions in the Affordable Care Act during a speech Wednesday where she'll outline her legislative priorities for the second half of the year.

@TonyStark The ADA “Obamacare” ❤️ saved me & my HoneyBear’s life & home when he was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma❣️ Worked perfectly as designed! He switched to a higher level insurance, paying 12k more a year & the 500k cost of the wonderfully successful treatment was almost 99% paid! 😍
@loveallexcludenone I’m so sorry that happened but glad to hear you have such a good outcome. I hope you both have continued great health and that we can keep and expand healthcare coverage in this country.
@TonyStark obamacare is so terrible i'm surprised they don't try to take credit for it
yes i support obama, yes it's ... slightly better than nothing... but trust me, from experience, the marketplace insurance plans are awful places that will just refuse all your claims unless you fight them.
@hapbt @TonyStark first, it got stripped down from the original plan. Secondly it varies widely from state to state. They shouldn’t have let the states have input.
@CatDragon @TonyStark i agree with all that, a better idea would be for republicans to identify what they actually don't like about it, and work towards fixing it but, no, it has to be torn down so they can replace it with something worse
@CatDragon @hapbt They don’t like that it’s a social benefit and a Democrat is credited for it- same as most Democratic policies.
@TonyStark @CatDragon @hapbt I mean, the GOP liked it when it was a Mitt Romney-backed plan in Massachusetts that required people to buy insurance. That helped the insurance industry.

I really think it being credited to a black Democrat is 99% of their complaint. Well, that and requiring insurance companies to provide decent coverage for what they're charging instead of just saying "Haha, you're denied!" all the time.
@hapbt @TonyStark they have no intention of replacing it. Getting rid of it all together is the goal.

@CatDragon @hapbt I have insurance for myself, my family, and my employees through it. No, it’s not perfect, but I certainly don’t have to fight every claim. I only had to make an extra call once in all these years for orthopedics for my daughter. She has a turned in left foot and certain shoe inserts weren’t covered.

Obamacare is well worth codifying which is the point of the original post.

@TonyStark @CatDragon we had Medica for about a year and they were terrible, literally every claim would either be denied or not fully paid
i would love to see someone 'patch the holes' in it vs destroy it however
@TonyStark @hapbt @CatDragon Obamacare is legacy achievement from a great President who did his best while facing some sickening circumstances.
@TonyStark @CatDragon @hapbt
This is my experience too -- they recently made it so dependents can get marketplace insurance if the family plan through an employer is crazy expensive, as mine was; we're saving around $400 a month and my wife's deductible is a little higher than it would have been, but her meds are waaayyy cheaper than mine. This is in Minnesota, though; each state gets to decide how good or bad their system is, MN seems to be OK.
@CatDragon @hapbt @TonyStark You can thank Joe Lieberman for not having a better plan. Lieberman, the sore loser who was mad that he got primaried by Ned Lamont so ran as an independent because he knew Republicans would support him to make sure a real Democrat wouldn't be their senator. Lieberman wouldn't support any plan that had a public option, so the ACA was the absolute best plan we could have.
@MariaHill @CatDragon @hapbt @TonyStark Yep. Lieberman has a lot of blood on his hands, from people who died because they couldn't afford healthcare.
@TonyStark I suspect it’s because they are too busy keeping their 4X indicted leader out of prison, and as soon as they have a minute, they will get back to taking people’s health care away.
Well done in Michigan!
@TonyStark Having a Democratic governor and Democratic state legislature matter. Democrats want to make sure people have and can afford health care. Republicans want to make they don't pay a dime for anyone else's health care and fear that you getting health care means they might get one fewer bandaid or aspirin.

@MariaHill Right! "Republicans'" antisocial refusal to let Americans benefit from fair healthcare conditions is driven by fear of losing opportunities to greedily line their own pockets.

@TonyStark
I love our governor. She's done so much for our state.
@TonyStark we already had it here when it was called Romneycare.
@TonyStark why not something better?
@TonyStark

I'm reasonably certain part of why they don't want healthcare insurance separate from employment is that it tends to anchor more senior personnel (who also tend to have families that need coverage ...meaning many can't afford gaps that come with job hopping).
@TonyStark This is a damned good idea, and something that should have been done in years past.
