@thesizzler @Sunshine @Phreba Kid Rock was so damn fun in the room. Just putting that out there.
@chopaganda @thesizzler @Phreba are we getting an official Chop ranking of this sit in compared to others?
@Sunshine @thesizzler @Phreba This one was an all-timer—gotta think it makes top 10. Too bad it wasn’t a full set. I’ll fully admit Kid Rock was trash, but man it was fun in the moment
@chopaganda @Sunshine @thesizzler Santana, Bela’ Fleck, Jon Popper, Medeski, Bobby, Dave Matthews all come to mind as excellent sit-ins. But, in terms of impact on a show while also blending in seamlessly with the band, that Derek sit in is best ever for my money.
@Phreba @Sunshine @thesizzler It was great no doubt. But if I could go back in time for any of them, off the top of my head, I have ARU Albany 93, MMW 95, Flecktones 97, and some of those 94 DMBs ahead of it. Plus Neil Farm Aid.
@chopaganda @Sunshine @thesizzler what I love about this sit in, is that it remained a phish show. Not sure if that makes sense here, but it’s what I found as a really welcome surprise. They weren’t the backing band for another artist. Those are all great choices you picked though, no doubt, particularly the ARU ‘93.
@Phreba @Sunshine @thesizzler And I guess why it doesn’t reach the status of the very best for me is that same reason. It doesn’t deviate enough from the norm to stand out like the others.
@chopaganda @Sunshine @thesizzler fair point, totally get that.
@Phreba @chopaganda @Sunshine @thesizzler does Karl Perazzo count as a sit in? Less of a "lead" player but I feel he had an awesome effect on their sound
@nkLottery @Phreba @Sunshine @thesizzler Counts if you want it to count. 11/2/96 is an all-timer
@chopaganda @Phreba @Sunshine @thesizzler exactly what I was thinking of, one of my first favorite Phish shows when I was getting into them a couple years back. So many great moments from a mean Free, to the definitive Crosseyed, right down to Butch Trucks at the end
