Janitors are being asked to stand up to gunmen because republican lawmakers won’t stand up to the gun industry.

@skykiss No, janitors are being a̶s̶k̶e̶d̶ expected to do this because parents keep electing Republicans.

Republican lawmakers don’t thrive in a vacuum. Even heavily gerrymandered districts have 50% women, and some 60% are parents.

No easy way to put this, a lot of our fellow citizens are uncaring scum.

@staidwinnow
The ones that don't bother voting are The Right's best assets. @skykiss

@BackFromTheDud @staidwinnow @skykiss Republican voter suppression takes the form of making it harder to vote, kicking legitimate voters off the voter list so they can't vote, and threatening voters with prison if they try to exercise their rights.

Democratic voter suppression takes the form of kicking legitimate candidates & parties off the ballot so nobody can vote for them.

Both forms of suppression reduce voter turnout, by design. If you're wondering how to improve voter turnout, these are the two main issues to address

@staidwinnow vote suppression (aka the actual rigged elections) is the only reason republicans aren't a fringe party
@skykiss The only way that will work is if your janitor is The Toxic Avenger.

The janitor(s) at UNC Chapel Hill shut/locked the classrooms and the building off from the intruder. The janitors put their lives at risk to do this. To save my son.

The right’s idea is to arm everyone in schools, from the students to the faculty. Anything to avoid losing the Russian money being funneled through the NRA.

@skykiss Well, since the SCOTUS literally said cops do not have a duty to protect anyone...except themselves...

What a truly sad state we're in.

@skykiss cool i bet he doesn't get a raise for it either just like a gold star sticker or something

Yip.

The janny is always the first one putting their ass on the line.

• First responder
• Keys for *everywhere*
• Cleans up all the mess
• Just *knows* how everything works

Been there.

@skykiss

@skykiss one of the worst arguments related to US shootings is: "if the teachers/janitor/staff had guns, a lot of lives could have been saved."
This logic just makes me cringe.
@skykiss, The bigger news here is that these janitors are heros. They weren't asked. They just did. Very brave.
@barbaraebj @skykiss Were the cops, (the people we literally pay to put their lives on the line to protect us and our children) waiting outside for backup again?
@skykiss surely we could solve this problem by arming the school kids.
@skykiss It's not just Republicans. The NRA funds Democrats, too.

Percentage of NRA donations going to Democrats, by year:

2022 0.00%
2021 1.75%
2018 2.23%
2016 0.96%
2014 4.23%
2012 10.97%

@skykiss why are there mass shootings where known employees of gun manufacturers hang out?
@skykiss
That's SOP in Minneapolis Public Schools too, I used to be a janitor there. If the shooter is outside, you go outside to lock the entrance doors, if the shooter is inside you go inside to lock inside doors
@jalcine
@skykiss And teachers and all the other underpaid service workers. Shameful and tragic.
@skykiss Oh my. The replies to this post offer a proper cornucopia of disagreement-porn accounts to mute or block. Win
@skykiss I had hoped that might learn something when the groundlings stormed their sacred chamber. Guess not
