For #ecvp2023 I should've given a talk this morning in the 'Crowding: Beyond Fixed Mechanisms' symposium, but since I'm isolating in my hotel with COVID, I had to record it. Here it is for anyone interested, whether at the conference or not!

What drives the elevation of crowding in clinical disorders of vision? John Greenwood @ ECVP 2023.

It's a bit 'insider baseball' given it's meant to be talk 4/5 in a symposium on crowding, but broadly it's about the disruptive effects of clutter on vision, both in typical peripheral vision & in the fovea for clinical conditions like amblyopia, where these effects are elevated.
The symposium had the theme that crowding may be more flexible than early accounts suggested, modulated by a variety of high-level factors and perhaps 'optimal' in some way. I don't think clinical elevations in crowding completely fit with that, which is the gist of my talk.
Lastly, stay safe out there! Hi from my isolation chambers.
