Weight of personal choices in fighting climate change - Lemmy.ca

I found this cool graphic from reddit. I do think that housing is missing from this, because it would maybe be good to see detached single-family housing vs apartments added somewhere into this?

I’ll tell my youngest child the bad news I guess. He’s gotta go.
Exactly. They might as well suggest people to kill themselves to make less of a climate impact.

No, it means that people who want to have big families but don’t have one yet should chill the fuck out or adopt instead. I’ve got two friends with four kids, my ex colleague’s daughter was having her 11th, I know many people with three…

There are too many humans on earth, just having less kids overall to let the population come down would make a huge difference.

I’ve only got two and it absolutely kicks my ass on a daily basis. I’ve got no idea why anyone would want more than two, let alone eleven. Absolute madness I tell ya!

I know!

Over here we get child benefits so only the father works outside the house, the mother takes care of the family with help from her parents, but still…

I‘m going to have 0 kids to try and balance out this stuff, but there is a surprising amount of people around me who can‘t even leave me alone about this. They need me specifically to have a kid for pensions sake or GDP or genes or some shit. It‘s wild. Don‘t even get me started on the taxes, already we pay proportionally far more for others kids (which I DO support, if only to prevent kids in poverty), but there is even talk in government to specifically tax anyone without children more.

If there is one cultural change I wish that came out of all this, it would be that collectively society leaves people who don‘t want children the fuck alone.
