@mtsw Would love it if my labor & Michigan politics friends made the shift.
@AdditionalQuench @mtsw They need a reason to be here. There were active accounts on that platform that attracted people for years. What is on Mastodon which you think would get them interested?
@Doreen32128 @AdditionalQuench @mtsw Personally I don’t want this space dominated by celebrities and politicians. I think we should have fun among ourselves. What do you do for fun? Would you like to meet others who live nearby who’d like to get together for activities? I’m thinking of hiking, biking, cooking, baking, stitching, woodworking, gaming, etc.
@brennansv @Doreen32128 @AdditionalQuench @mtsw I’d like to go on a hike and bake with Mark Hamill.Jokes aside, I come here to interact with people I do not know or plan to meet in the real world. I have a history of playing MMOs and becoming well acquainted with strangers, but at the end of the day I phone a friend if I want to have dinner with somebody.I enjoy the separation of my online and offline presence, even with decade long friendships.
@ClickyMcTicker I definitely think we could do some activities remotely, like baking and sharing photos/videos of us trying out different recipes. Food is actually a great way to have a "shared" experience because we can all touch and taste the same food. And if we do plan a potluck in the park we know who's food we want to try first. 👩‍🍳🧁 @Doreen32128 @AdditionalQuench @mtsw
@brennansv @ClickyMcTicker @AdditionalQuench @mtsw I’m in Port Orange FL. A virtual picnic maybe? :-)

@Doreen32128 I’ve never done that but see it's been done.

It makes me think of that Portal project which connected some cities with a big live video feed in city centers.

How to Host A Virtual Picnic - Pretty Little Shoppers

With social distancing as the new norm, I decided to host a virtual picnic from my new back yard. Since Los Angeles is still on major lock down, I invited my girl Sheree to join me for a fun, delicious and relaxing afternoon get together without leaving our respective homes. Scroll down to read my

@Doreen32128 It would not be too difficult to set up a video call with a reasonably large screen to be like the Portals between remote picnics. That would be pretty cool to connect a few locations this way.
