Oh, it's easy - just follow these simple steps:
Apply gentle pressure with your hand near the end of the object that does not have the dangling appendage, against the surface between the two raised flanges.
Rub hand smoothly along the body of the object until you reach the base of the dangling appendage. At this point, you can remove your hand.
Repeat these steps until object begins to emit a rumbling noise.
