It’s Monday, so we all could use a little pick-me up. How about several? Today I dive into the Trump defense game plan, at least as it is playing out pre-trial, and outline four reasons why it’s pretty much a disaster and sinking fast. Enjoy! https://open.substack.com/pub/statuskuo/p/the-trump-game-plan-sure-feels-shaky?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
The Trump Game Plan Sure Feels Shaky

Former President Donald Trump sits at the defense table with his legal team in a Manhattan court on April 4, 2023. (AP Photo/Seth Wenig, Pool) With so many milestones today and in the coming weeks for Trump’s various legal cases, and with the prosecutors having announced all or nearly all of the criminal charges we are likely to see against Trump before the election, it’s useful to take stock of how things stand. Specifically, it’s helpful to ask at this point, “How’s Trump’s defense doing?”

The Status Kuo

@jaykuo This strikes me as of a piece with Trump's whole life. He's never been a disciplined planner. But before he's always been able to wriggle out of consequences through a mixture of improvisation, abuse, and sheer exhaustion of his opponents. The chaos worked in his favor.

I hope this time is different, but I'm not counting any chickens yet.

@jaykuo I get that every criminal defendant is entitled to legal representation. But seriously, what lawyer in their right mind would voluntarily work for him at this point??
@jaykuo Firing your criminal defense lawyer in the midst of a criminal trial is a time-honored tactic for criminal defendants seeking delay. I expect to see motions to withdraw based on "breakdown of communication." I doubt the federal judge will take such motions well.
@jaykuo @georgetakei This is a fantastic write up. Factual and good conjecture while throwing in a few humorous comments.
