Thanks to Kammy for compiling the fork of the Hairless MIDI Serial Bridge that's compatible with the Mega Everdrive Pro! I can now play my Genesis as a synthesizer!

@icefoxx I occasionally look for a Yahana DX7 which supposedly is close to the chip, so I can attempt to play phantasy star themes
@RoseExotico Yeah! The DX7 is basically a more advanced version of what's in the Genesis/MegaDrive.
I do want to get myself a DX7 as well, but for now I have the DX7 V VST from Arturia which sounds pretty dang close.
