How about we just stop state executions like all of Europe except Belarus, the entire rest of the Americas, Australia, New Zealand, and the majority of Africa. States where the elected officials (seems to be mostly Republicans) want to keep executing people have to keep coming up with stranger ways and this is lousy company to be in.

Alabama wants to be the 1st state to execute a prisoner by making him breathe only nitrogen

Alabama is seeking to become the first state to execute a prisoner by making him breathe pure nitrogen. The Alabama attorney general’s office on Friday asked the state Supreme Court to set an execution date for Kenneth Eugene Smith using the new method of nitrogen hypoxia. For years the state has said it was working to develop the method. The disclosure that it is ready to use nitrogen hypoxia is expected to set off a new round of legal battles over the constitutionality of the method. A number of Alabama inmates seeking to block their executions by lethal injection, including Smith, have argued they should be allowed to die by nitrogen hypoxia.

@MariaHill @Gte not a good look for the US to be on this list at all.

FWIW, I think there are many bad people in the world who probably don’t deserve to live. However, is it a more fitting punishment for a serious criminal to live the rest of their life in prison, or to be put to death?

My only objection to long term imprisonment is that the cost to the tax payer can be very high but if prisoners can work to offset the cost then I think imprisonment is a more fitting punishment.
