If they don’t change their circumstances, how do you expect them to improve their life? What do they have to lose by walking away from a crappy paying job during a time when there are jobs available nearly everywhere?

Because they don’t have food and shelter in other cities? What good is their support network doing them right now as they struggle to scrape by? I think you might be the naive one. I’ve moved several times for better opportunities. Don’t let a bad situation make you feel stuck.

Just continuing to do the same thing over and over because good things only happened to the privileged so there is no point in trying to improve your own life.
